The colophon

How this place works.

A colophon for the apartment. Every tiny thing, and how it actually works.

What's actually live

A few things in the apartment are real. They read my actual accounts, not a script. The board above shows which ones are on right now.

Now playing

What you seeThe record on the stereo, and a card with the album art turned into pixels.

It reads my Spotify. If nothing's on, it shows the last song I played.

Checked every few seconds. Everyone visiting shares the same check.

“Listen along” plays the real song in Spotify's own player, about where I am in it. Full track if you're logged into Spotify, a short preview if you're not.

Playing on Steam

What you seeWhen I'm in a game, the TV switches to it: the cover art in pixels, with the name across the top. The game shelf lists what I've played lately.

It reads my Steam profile. The cover art comes from the game's Steam store page.

Checked about once a minute.

If you picked a channel yourself, the TV stays on your pick.

The weather outside the window

What you seeWhatever New York is doing right now: clear, cloudy, rain, snow, or a storm. The room's light follows the time of day too.

It comes from a public weather service. Morning and night use that day's real sunrise and sunset.

Checked every 10 minutes.

Under 55°F, steam comes off the mug on the desk. At 80°F and up, the desk fan turns on.

Sleep and readiness

What you seeHover or tap me and I'll tell you how I slept. The calendar by the desk has the whole year: sleep, readiness and activity scores, how long I usually sleep, when I usually go to bed, and roughly how far I've walked.

It reads my Oura ring. Days the ring missed stay blank and don't count as zero.

Checked every 30 minutes for the bubble, hourly for the calendar. New nights show up after my ring syncs.

At my usual bedtime I grab the throw off the sofa and pass out on the couch. The TV and lamp go off until my usual wake-up. Both times come from my last 30 nights, so they move as my sleep does. The step count gets a small daily bump because I don't wear the ring all day. Heart rate, HRV, temperature and blood oxygen never leave Oura.

The apartment, in detail

Most of the room is just for fun and isn't tied to any account. Here's what's going on with it.

My day

What you seeI wander between the desk, the sofa, the kitchen and outside on my own.

It's a routine I wrote by hand, not a feed of what I'm doing. Work, scroll, read, watch TV, one more game of TFT, put on a record, get some air. You can also pick me up and put me somewhere else.

Runs all the time, on New York time. At night I'm asleep on the couch.

Gengar

What you seeHe's in the corner. Click him and he says hi.

It's just a toggle. Nothing live about it, he's just there.

Stays the way you left it for the rest of your visit.

The reading lamp

What you seeTap it and the whole room gets warmer or darker.

It goes into the same lighting math as the time of day and the weather, so it changes the room's actual light.

Instant.

The bar

What you seeAsk for a Guinness and watch it get poured.

A five-second animation. It pours cloudy, settles, then gets topped off. There's no drink to track.

Once per pour.

The toy Ferrari

What you seeA small car doing laps by the door.

It just runs, all the time, because I like Ferrari.

Always.

The TV

What you seePick a channel (a movie, a couple of shows, or one of my games) or let it flip on its own.

Every channel is a pixel scene drawn in code. No embedded videos, no one else's stream.

Left alone, it changes channel about every 17 seconds.

The memory card

What you seeSix souvenirs hidden around the site. Say hi to Gengar, make a drink, open a pack, open a place on the map, finish an essay, and start a game in the arcade.

Each one saves a stamp in your browser. Get all six and there's something waiting for you at home.

Saved right away, only in your browser.

No account and nothing on my server. Clear your browser data and the card goes with it.

The arcade

Play counts

What you seeHow many times each game has been started, on the arcade page.

Every start adds one to a counter in the site's database.

Updates within about a minute.

Multiplayer rooms

What you seeOnline games like Wavelength and Spyfall: Dev Edition, joined with a room code.

Everyone in a room shares one real-time channel, keyed by the code. No accounts, no lobby to browse.

Live for as long as the room is open.

The work

The portfolio pulls straight from GitHub, so I don't update it by hand.

Repos

What you seeThe repo list on the portfolio page.

It comes from GitHub, filtered to public repos that aren't forks, aren't archived and have a description. If I give a repo a description, it can show up here.

Refreshed about once an hour.

Recent activity

What you seeMy latest public commits.

Pulled from my public GitHub activity.

Refreshed about every 30 minutes.

Contribution count

What you seeOne quiet line on the desk panel and under my repos: how many GitHub contributions I've made, and since when.

It adds up GitHub's yearly contribution totals. The full graph is on GitHub, so I don't redraw it here.

Refreshed every few hours.

Kept by hand, not live

A couple of things look live but I update them myself, on purpose.

TFT rank history

What you seeMy peak rank and LP for the sets I can prove, plus games played each set.

I copy the highest rank from my match tracker. Older sets I can't back up stay unranked. Nothing checks Riot's servers.

Whenever I check a set's history.

The travel map

What you seePlaces I've lived and visited, with photos and notes.

I place the pins and write the notes. It's not tracking where I am.

Whenever I add a trip.

What I keep off this site

Health data

What you seeOnly the scores and summaries on the calendar and in my sleep bubble.

Heart rate, HRV, skin temperature and blood oxygen are all in my Oura data. None of it reaches this site.

Always left out, not just hidden on the page.

Credentials

What you seeNothing, which is the point.

Every API key and token stays on the server. Your browser never talks to the Spotify, Steam or Oura APIs. It only loads their public images, like album covers and game art.

Always.

Accounts

What you seeThere's no sign-up anywhere on the site.

Multiplayer games use a room code instead of a login. The memory card lives in your browser, not in a database.

Always.

Built with Next.js, React, TypeScript and Tailwind. The apartment and the 3D corners on the other pages are plain three.js. Supabase holds the games and their play counts. Vercel hosts it.

TANMAY’S PLACE / VISITOR

Your memory card

Six souvenirs are hidden around the site. You’ll find them by looking around.

0 / 6 souvenirs collected

Find all six for a small surprise back at home.

Save it or share it. It’s made in your browser, and nothing gets uploaded.

Your card stays in this browser. No account needed. Clearing browser data clears your card.
